JASON DONOVAN
‘LET IT BE ME’
FIRST BRAND NEW ALBUM IN 15 YEARS
RELEASED: 10 NOVEMBER 2008
On 10 November 2008, Decca will release ‘Let It Be Me’ the first brand new album by Jason Donovan for 15 years. Inspired by the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, ‘Let It Be Me’ pays homage to an era of romance.
Co-produced by Paul Neehan and Brian Rawling, the latter having worked with Cher, Tina Turner and Enrique Iglesias, the collection is Jason’s most accomplished and mature album yet. Featuring both brand new tracks and cover versions, ‘Let It Be Me’ was recorded entirely live to achieve an authentic sound and seamlessly merge new compositions with Jason’s interpretations of classics from the late 50’s and early 60’s.
The album of pop classics – ‘Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’, ‘Love Letters’ and ‘Rhythm of The Rain’ to name just a few of the 17 tracks - also features two songs that Jason has co-written, ‘Dreamboats And Petticoats’ featuring the unique sound of Hank Marvin on guitar and ‘All The Words We Don’t Say’. One other song, available only on i-Tunes, ‘Nobody But Me’ was written with acclaimed musician Brian Eno.
Jason’s own vocal talent combined with songs made famous by legendary artists like Cliff Richard, Vic Damone and Billy Fury give the album, a fresh yet authentic sound and also captures the timeless, romantic feel of the period.
“Those years produced some of the most beautiful, simple love songs of all time and have something to offer for music fans today. This album manages to capture the spirit of my recording career once again and ticks a lot of boxes for me. The songs will appeal to all ages but I feel I’m also bringing them to a new audience,” Jason says.
“The retro style is making a huge comeback with modern artists and this compilation features such great songs. We’ve used top musicians and recorded it authentically. You have to live up to classics like these."
Having sold a staggering 13 Million albums worldwide, Jason Donovan, has a special relationship with the music of the late 50’s and early 60’s. It was a period that first made him a musical icon in the 1980’s, having hits with ‘Sealed With A Kiss’ (originally number 1 in June 1989) and ‘Rhythm Of The Rain’ (number 9 in September 1990). These two tracks have been reworked once again and feature on the new album.
On 16 September 2008, it was announced that Jason Donovan will return to the UK West End stage in March 2009 as the stage production of cult movie ‘Priscilla, Queen Of the Desert’ debuts in London. Jason takes the role of Mitzi Del Bra the character played by Hugo Weaving in the movie. Jason Donovan’s popularity in the UK has sustained throughout the years with his stage appearances in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, as Frank N Furter in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and as Caractacus Potts in ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. First coming to the public’s attention in Neighbours in the mid 80’s, Jason Donovan returned to the UK’s screen in 2006 when he took part in ‘I’m A Celebrity get Me Out Of Here’ and most recently alongside Martine McCutcheon in ITV1’s docusoap ‘Echo Beach’.
‘Let It Be Me’ is released on 10 November 2008.
